Dr. Jerry Tennant

A physician, innovator, and educator whose work helped redefine bioelectric understanding.

For more than five decades, Dr. Jerry Tennant has contributed to advancements in medicine, surgery, and bioelectric science. His career spans clinical leadership, medical innovation, education, and original research that challenged conventional models of how the body functions and adapts.

Dr. Tennant’s work laid the foundation for the Healing Is Voltage® framework and continues to inform the educational systems and technologies used today.

FOUNDATIONS

Early Academic Achievement

Dr. Tennant demonstrated exceptional academic ability early in life. By completing his junior and senior years simultaneously through independent study, he graduated valedictorian from high school at age sixteen.

He attended Texas Tech University, where he received both the Phi Kappa Phi Award and Premed of the Year Award, before continuing his education at the University of Houston School of Optometry.

At just nineteen years old, Dr. Tennant was accepted into Southwestern Medical School and graduated in the top ten of his class by age twenty-three.

SURGICAL EDUCATION

Medical Training and Specialization

Dr. Tennant completed his residency in ophthalmology through Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Southwestern Medical School / Parkland Hospital system between 1965 and 1968.
He was board certified in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery and went on to serve as Director of the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Clinic at Parkland Hospital. He later founded the Dallas Eye Institute and co-founded the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgical Society.

MEDICAL INNOVATION

Advancing Modern Ophthalmology

Throughout his career, Dr. Tennant helped advance multiple areas of ophthalmic surgery and outpatient care. He was among the earliest surgeons in the United States to implant intraocular lenses following cataract surgery, eliminating the need for thick, restrictive corrective glasses.

He also contributed to the development of safer intraocular lenses, new surgical techniques, and incision methods that allowed patients to recover more quickly and safely.

Dr. Tennant chaired the committee that helped establish regulatory frameworks for outpatient surgical centers in Texas and worked with Congress to secure Medicare coverage for outpatient eye surgery — resulting in significant cost savings and improved patient safety nationwide.

Collaboration with Global Leaders

Dr. Tennant collaborated with leading surgeons and researchers around the world to advance cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and outpatient surgical standards. He played a central role in research for the VISX Excimer Laser and contributed to FDA studies supporting refractive laser technology.
He was also a catalyst in forming the Royal Hawaiian Eye Meeting, now one of the world’s largest ophthalmology conferences.

Medical Innovation and Patents

Dr. Tennant holds more than thirteen patents for medical devices, including intraocular lenses, surgical instruments, and diagnostic technologies. His intellectual property portfolio also includes trademarks and proprietary systems that continue to influence modern bioelectric education and device development.
Notably, his work led to the development of the original TENNANT BioModulator® and TENNANT BioTransducer® technologies — foundational innovations that have since evolved into the Tennant™ System, the modern, integrated framework used for bioelectric education today.
THE SHIFT TOWARD BIOELECTRIC THEORY

A Turning Point in Understanding

After performing thousands of surgeries internationally, Dr. Tennant experienced a severe decline in his own health due to prolonged viral exposure during early laser surgical procedures — a risk not yet understood at the time.
Facing chronic neurological symptoms and limited treatment options, he turned to independent study in cellular biology. Through this work, he began identifying a recurring principle: cells require sufficient electrical energy to function.
This insight led him to explore the relationship between pH, voltage, and cellular activity — forming the foundation for what would later become the Healing Is Voltage® framework.

Healing Is Voltage®

Dr. Tennant’s research led to a fundamental observation: chronic dysfunction is often associated with loss of cellular voltage. From this principle emerged the Healing Is Voltage® framework — a model emphasizing the role of bioelectric energy, polarity, and system coherence in cellular function.
This framework now underpins structured education, technology development, and protocol design used worldwide.

Author and Educator

Dr. Tennant is the author of multiple books, including Healing Is Voltage®, Healing Is Voltage® The Handbook, Healing Is Voltage® Healing Eye Diseases, Acupuncture Muscle Batteries, and Cancer’s On/Off Switches: Polarity.
These works are based on decades of observation, research, and personal experience and are widely regarded as foundational texts in bioelectric education.
